Ruffa gets cast in ‘Ugly Betty’

AFTER THE announcement that Bea Alonzo had been chosen to play the lead role in ABS-CBN’s remake of Yo Soy Betty La Fea (known as Ugly Betty in the US), everyone’s attention turned to the next big question: who would be chosen to play the other pivotal roles, particularly that of Armando, Betty’s boss?

Several names were brought up, including that of Sam Milby and comebacking actor Gabby Concepcion. But Sam is already confirmed to be one of Anne Curtis’ three leading men in Dyosa, which begins airing in July.

Gabby, meanwhile, has started taping for Iisa Pa Lamang, his first ABS-CBN soap opposite Claudine Barretto. Fans of the Bea Alonzo-John Lloyd Cruz tandem, last seen in Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik and the movie One More Chance, are actively pushing for the two to re-team-up in Betty La Fea, but ABSCBN seems bent on having them take a breather and pair up with other partners.

John Lloyd, incidentally, will soon start shooting for his new movie with Star Cin ema, which will star him opposite Sarah Geronino. So while the search for Betty’s leading man is ongoing, the rest of the puzzle is slowly falling into place.

A few days ago, the network formally announced that it had cast Ruffa Gutierrez, co-host of The Buzz, in the role of Daniella, the local counterpart of Ugly Betty’s Wilhelmina Slater, a conceited, self-absorbed diva and former fashion model who works as Creative Director of MODE magazine.
