Retailers like Levi and Costco plan to shift routes, use air freight to avoid delays
All those who took more than a geek-peek at some of the best technology available in the universe will probably concur with me that there was a little more that made some exhibitors stand out head and shoulders over the rest - and that was the glamour component of the show. All that seemed like gobbledygook for some of us trying in vain to get our heads around printers and rabbit routers to network enterprise solutions and projector lamps was probably a little more simplified when a pretty hostess handed out a brochure or two - their smiles were enough to put any male processor into an overdrive.
Our personal favourites were the Diamond Belles (see picture 1), brought all the way down from Los Angeles, who charmed the crowds with their dance routines and the indefatigable ability to smile all day and pose for pictures with customers. Renee Stone with her troupe, all consisting of NBA cheerleaders, models and actresses recreated the pin-up doll era of the Swingin' Sixties as they did what they do best - project the right brand image for AVI Electronics (guess what they are into projectors themselves).
A close second were the Gadget Glam girls (see picture 2) with their fluorescent platinum and red wigs. Their hip and futuristic look could have gone well if they were selling spaceships to aliens, but it also worked wonders with geeks and freaks who hobbled into the stand that showcased some of the sleekest wonders in consumer gadgetry.
And then there were the Samsung girls (see picture 3), clad in cool blue satin tops and white skirts, who beamed and smiled all day long at customers who were then galvanized by the prospect of buying smart phones, LCDs and computer monitors.
The Panasonic girls (see picture 3) might have been outweighed, but were certainly not overawed by the 150-inch plasmatic monstrosity that has all the pixels and resolution to put your home entertainment life into the right perspective. In their smart black dresses they just brought the right oeuvre and glamour to the stand that attracted a lot of buyers looking to push the right buttons as far as decision-making was concerned.
Adding to the list are the smart Dell girls who didn’t have a chip on their shoulders when it came to posing for pictures. The Avaya girls with their red-haute look made intelligent communications so much more fun. Then there was Anna Karaskova, who was an absolute stunner. With her drop-dead gorgeous looks she put Apex right there on top with the very best at Gitex 2008.
