priYOU'RE THE first A-list actress in Bollywood who's gone corporate, signing up multi-film deals with production houses. What advantage does this give you, considering you're already in a position to pick and choose your roles?

This industry has always been male-dominated. Given this fact, it feels great to lead the women's brigade and sign a deal of such significance. It feels nice to know that a production house believes I am bankable enough for such a contract.

I have always wanted to be more involved in the making of films. In this deal, I will be involved in the film's conception, shortlisting scripts and genres. I will have full freedom to choose directors and even technicians! I am looking forward to creating celluloid magic together with the production house.

After Don and your tough action star image, Drona is supposed to show you in a similar light. Do you consider this your USP? Are you concerned you might get typecast?

I do not want to typecast myself by saying action girl or romantic actress. I would like to be known as Priyanka the actor someone who can play any role with élan.

You are also doing Love Story 2050 with Harman Baweja, which is supposed to be sci-fi. A reprise of Krrish? How will this one be different? Do you think your rapport with Harman will bring extra zing to the film?

Krrish and Love Story 2050 are totally different. Krrish was based on the life of a superhero while Love Story 2050 is a science fiction movie set in Mumbai in the year 2050. My role is completely different from anything I've done before. What we've shot so far looks fabulous.

You have signed Karan Johar's next film. Tell us a more about that.

Yes, I have signed Karan Johar's next movie. But I can't share anything further on this.

You are supposed to have a soft, sentimental, even mushy side. Tell us about it.

Clichéd but it's for me to know and you to find out!

Of all the Miss Worlds and Miss Universes, besides Ash, you have made the biggest impact with audiences worldwide. What gives you that extra edge?

Besides destiny, luck and my eagerness to learn, the most important driving force in my career has been my family. They are both my weakness and strength. I derive my confidence, pride and inspiration from the strength my family gives me.

What's the history of the pet name Piggy Chops?

It's the name given to me by Abhishek Bachchan during the shooting of Bluff Master.

Putting you in a spot here: you've worked with all the male star biggies. Who's the one who has been the nicest? What about the female actors in Bollywood?

I have worked with some of the biggest stars in Indian cinema and I have had a cordial relationship working with all of them.

How do you see your career so far and what of the future?

Although I have never really got the time to introspect, my journey in the industry so far has been very nice. There are ups and downs in everyone's journey and I've had mine, but one must look at it objectively. On the whole, it has been lovely but there is yet a long way to go. With the appreciation for movies like Aitraaz, Bluff Master, Krrish and Don, it feels great to be on my way to acceptance. My next releases are Love Story 2050, Drona and God Tussi Great Ho.

Priyanka tears abs muscle

PRIYANKA CHOPRA was rendered hors de combat on the sets of Drona at Film City in Mumbai recently while attempting to do somersaults for a dangerous action scene.

Priyanka, who went through a martial arts course while making Don, is now taking tips on an ancient Sikh fighting art called 'Gagta'.

Her role in Goldie Behl's Drona has Priyanka playing Abhishek Bachchan's bodyguard. And a certain amount of stunts are required to be performed by the former beauty queen in this movie.

Priyanka, of course, is no newcomer to such scenes. And she threw herself into the role with gusto. Until the injury. "I was having such fun until then," she winced."In fact, when I arrive on the sets, I announce, 'I'm armed and dangerous. So please stay away."

She described the accident, "I was doing a somersault when I felt something give way inside my rib cage. I've apparently suffered a tear in my abs."

Priyanka's been advised complete rest. "If it doesn't rest it won't heal. But here I am, shooting a vigorous dance song for Rajiv Surti. It's so painful. I've no choice but to continue," she groaned. Soon after, Abhishek and she are leaving for Namibia to shoot some more stunts and songs. "I don't know how I'll manage," said a worried Priyanka.
