Isobel Abulhoul, Director of Dubai-based Magrudy’s welcomed the planned entry of Border’s Books into the local market. “I think it’s very good for everyone in the book industry, and it gives book lovers another choice in the city,” she said.

“It was inevitable that someone would open up here, and there’s more than enough room,” she added.

When asked if she was worried about the competition she replied, “If you can’t compete you shouldn’t be in business.”

Isobel was speaking at the launch of Magrudy’s latest store on level three of BurJuman. Housing over 100,000 books in ebony and ash shelves, the company spent over two years of research and planning to create a new design. She was delighted with the result. “This is the new look Magrudy’s,” she revealed. “BurJuman is a very good location for the store, and attracts the upper end of the market. Personally I think BurJuman is a super mall.”

In relation to Border’s moving into the market, Isobel concluded: “We shouldn’t feel that because we’re a local business that we can’t compete. I believe we’re more than capable of doing this.”
