(her closest rival)Nadine Samonte, Karylle, Rica Peralejo, and others. She has just played supporting roles in 'Super Twins' and 'Muli' and this is her biggest break so far since she plays the title role no less.

'I never expected this since all those that auditioned were all good,' she says. 'I just did my best because, I think, the things that they made us do in the audition were all the same anyway. I'm thankful to God and to the network's management that I was chosen and I promise now that I will do everything I can so they won't be disappointed. This, to the extent that I eat mud just like what Thalia did in the original Marimar.'

Marian will be supported by Dingdong Dantes, Richard Gomez and Bing Loyzaga.

At this point, some questions are being asked. Is she up to her role? Can Marian be exciting enough to make people tune in to the localised version of Marimar?

We got wind that it was offered first to Angel Locsin who begged off. People from GMA-7 have been on a text brigade last week trying to do a damage control because the tabloid gossip gang were already spewing items that Marian was nothing but a second choice after Angel. The text messages said that the role was never offered to Angel.

Will Angel even bother to say it was offered to her if it weren't? We know the girl and she's one who will not invent stories so she could be written about. The role of Marimar was broached to her sometime in April. And that's a fact.

Angel said it took her several days before she called back the management to give her decision — that is to decline to give way to her plans of pursuing a career in fashion and business.

Despite what some people in her home network is saying now, she is still very grateful to GMA-7 for the opportunities given to her. She clarified that if her schedule allowed her, she would have loved to play Marimar.

Angel is flying to the United States for screenings of 'Angels,' the movie she co-produced with talent manager Becky Aguila under Eagle Eye Productions. From the US she will proceed to London for a short course in fashion design and merchandising.

Isn't it a big letdown that the network's most prized actress turned down an important project?

Now, Jennylyn Mercado wants to make it clear she's not sulking because the Kapuso Network didn't give her the plum role of Marimar when she was expecting she'd be their choice after Angel turned it down.

'That's not true at all,' she says. 'I didn't entertain any expectations at all. If Marian Rivera was the lucky girl, then I'm happy for her. I have other projects, anyway, that preoccupy me that's why envy is not in my vocabulary.'

Jennylyn's glad that her first movie with real life boyfriend Patrick Garcia, 'Angels,' is getting good feedback. She's leaving with him next week for the movie's US premiere in LA, San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas. She's also been tapped by Sen. Bong Revilla to join him in the cast of his Metro filmfest entry, 'Resiklo.'
