How important is hair colour when it comes to a woman’s overall image?

Colour is the first thing that people notice about you, so wearing the right colours in hair is the first step every woman should start with. The effect of colour on the overall image is evident in how vibrant or tired you may look. The right colours will reflect a healthy glow and natural harmony.

So how does one go about choosing the right hair colour?

First of all, finding your undertone is key - it is naturally warm or cool. These are not visible to the naked eye but if you look closely and compare some key colours against your skin, you will see it. The easiest way is to compare metallic colours (gold and silver) or pinks (peach versus icy pink) with your skin. Watch the effect on your eyes and hair as well. The eyes will look brighter and the hair healthier against your colour.

What advice would you give to someone colouring their hair for the first time?

Play it on the safe side and opt for one shade lighter or darker than your natural hair colour. For example, if you are a medium brown and want to go lighter, you can go for Wella colours Koleston Chocolate Brown 6/7, if on the other hand you want to go darker, you can opt for Dark Brown 3/0. This enables you to stay in the same colour value scale, but makes your colour more vibrant.

Colouring your hair the same as your favourite celebrity’s - mistake or trendy?

If you want to follow a celebrity trend, you have to compare their elements against your own. For example, if you love Jennifer Aniston’s look, she has highlights as well as lowlights in her hair but they work for her – because of bright eyes, which adds intensity to her overall look, she needs to have the three-dimensional hair colour. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of Nancy Ajram – when she darkens her hair, her eye-colour pops and her complexion looks brighter.

Give us a few makeover tips.

Changing your hair colour is one of the easiest and most obvious ways to update or change your look. Update your hairstyle by going for a new look that suits your face shape, features and personality. Moving to make-up, learn new ways of applying and blending it professionally. Last, your wardrobe needs extra attention - start by removing anything you have not worn for a year and newer ones in the wrong colour or style.
