The Italian Key-Tomb band comprising of 11 acrobatic performers will perform the Carleon show at the opening ceremony today. The band that reached fame after their performance at the Millennium ceremony in Roma that was attended by 2.5 million people, is set to dazzle Dubai this DSS. A 30-minute fireworks show will be on at the Ibn Battuta Mall (Indian court) for the first time to herald in the Knowledge Surprises week.

"The opening ceremony will be a technical feast for audience with laser and amazing sound effects being used. There are also plenty of surprises lined up to keep the audience in tow," said Major Mohammed Bin Dylan, Head of the Knowledge Surprises organising committee. The event is open to the public.

Sponsored by the Emirates Telecommunication Corporation — Etisalat — and Emirates Cable TV and Multimedia (E-Vision), the weeklong events are organised to give the younger generation of nationals, residents and visitors an interactive week of knowledge.

The week will kick off with a host of activities in various venues today. The Mobda Studio, Holy Quran Booth, Nissan Car Painting Competition held at the Modhesh Fun City will also provide edutainment opportunities for children. A seminar on "Common Mistakes While Raising Children" by Yousif Saadah will be held at Hall 5 of DWTC from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. Roaming activities, Police Music bands and the Shamshon Al Arab will keep visitors entertained throughout the week.
