Kerala Fest kicks off to a festive start

INDIAN CONSUL General to Dubai Venu Rajamani inaugurated the fifth edition of Onachantha - the Kerala Fest (August 18) at a glittering and colourful ceremony held at Ansar Mall, Al Nahda, Dubai-Sharjah highway.

The 10-day Onam fair will run until 27th of this month and all activities will take place at the basement level of the mall, between 7pm and 11pm daily.

Renowned film actress Oormila Unni was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the biggest Onam carnival in the Gulf. Ali Akbar, Chairman Ansar Mall, PV Vivekanand veteran Media Personality, Hamid Mansoori GM Ansar Mall, Habib Rahman and Asif Thottath Directors of Advertising, Michael Fawcitt CEO-ADVA, celebrities and other were also present at the function.

The festival of togetherness has been organized by Dubai based ADVA Advertising, in collaboration with Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for the last five consecutive years.

Kerala Fest showcases an exciting range of cultural activities, family entertainment, exclusive Onam-specified shopping offers and delicious Kerala cuisine. Performance of artistes and celebrities from film and music industries, folk arts and Onam-themed cultural and entertainment elements, prize-winning competitions, worthwhile service pavilions are part of the mega carnival.

Over 50 stalls, selling various items of specific interest to the non-resident Keralite, are set up at the venue. The value-added stalls are dedicated to give away attractive offers, free sampling of different products, discounts on vegetables, fruits and other food-stuffs, fabulous gifts and daily mega prizes to the visitors. An exotic array of Keralite gourmet and culinary delights are served up at the exclusive food court set up at the venue. Counter for free medical check-up, matrimonial majlis, money exchange mela, property pavilions have also been set up at the venue. While adults indulge in the shopping spree, children can check out the various entertainment activities.

Mohiniyattom, Kuchippudi, Bharathanattyam, Chakkyarkooth, Thiruvathirakali, cinematic dance, group dance, orchestra, classical music concert, Gazal, magic show, kids' music performance, kids fashion show, mimics, skit, comedy show, mix karaoke, Kadha Prasangam and Naadan Paattukal are also in store.

The prize-winning competitions conducted as part of Onachantha include floral carpet designing, Onappaattu contest, cookery contest, eating contest and beauty contest for Kids etc. There will be 10 teams under the banner of different associations, organisations and groups in the UAE, consisting of 10 members in each team, for the floral carpet design and Onappattu singing contests.
