Kate to attend Camilla's party

KATE MIDDLETON has been invited to the Duchess of Cornwall's 60th birthday party. The fact that Prince William has asked her to Saturday night's Highgrove celebration suggests that their rekindled relationship is going from strength to strength.

Miss Middleton, 25, is holidaying with friends in the Caribbean but she is said to be 'hopeful' of making it back in time. "Camilla was keen to invite Kate as the two have always got on well but for obvious reasons it had to be William's decision in the end," said a royal source.

The couple parted in April after four years but are now publicly an item again. They will not, however, be joined at Saturday's party by Prince Harry or his long-term girlfriend Chelsy Davy. The couple are on holiday together while he awaits a decision from Army chiefs on his future role following the decision not to send him to Iraq, and will not be attending.

The Queen and other senior members of the Royal Family are also expected to be absent. "It's just not a party on that scale," a Clarence House spokesman said. Two hundred guests have been invited to the black-tie event which is being organised by Prince Charles's former valet Michael Fawcett and his events company and will, weather permitting, take place by candlelight in the gardens at Highgrove.

Guests, including celebrities Joan Rivers, Joanna Lumley, Stephen Fry, Prunella Scales and Timothy West, will be given a three-course organic dinner after which speeches will be given by both the duchess and her husband followed by dancing to a band. "It was meant to be a rather lowkey event as it is also the tenth anniversary of the late Princess of Wales's death," said a source.
