What kind of films do you enjoy watching?

I’ve got varied taste when it comes to the kind of cinema I watch. I’m not a movie buff and would rather pick a good read over a film. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. I like reading some fiction, some historical and some Mills and Boons. I read for fun as it helps de-stress from all that surrounds me.

Does My Name is Khan (MNIK)make your top five favourites?

My Name is Khan is definitely something that I am proud of and it will be a film that I’ll cherish for years on end.

Did anyone from MNIK get a signature Kajol haircut?

Not at all! I’m clueless about cutting hair even though I may have imitated it well. I’ve never tried it even though it looks like good fun. But I really admire people who cut hair brilliantly; I even kiss their hands if I feel like it. They are artists in their work.

Would you call MNIK one of Shah Rukh Khan’s best performances ever?

Yes, and I know Shah Rukh would list this in his top five performances for sure. It’s a really fine one. Shah Rukh could have easily taken it over the top but he played it with so much authenticity that it’s such a pleasure to watch him.

Do you believe Karan Johar’s superstition that you falling down on the sets is lucky for his films?

Karan’s superstition is complete nonsense! It’s only in his head. Unlike others who have a lucky tree, set or methods, Karan hopes that I fall down (laughs) - his superstition is quite quirky. I don’t know if I was purposely tripped.

How did you react to the controversy that threatened your film?

It just stresses everybody out and makes it uncomfortable because you don’t know what to do or what to say. The controversy belittles all the hard work, the finished product and the message - it just takes over the film. We were upset and stressed but eventually things worked out.

Is it true that you are planning to take a break from films?

I’m really tired and I need a break. I can’t think beyond a holiday because I’ve been on this crazy marathon of work. I don’t want to talk to anyone for six months and just want family time. But I know it won’t be possible right now. Hopefully I will take that break soon.
