In the end, determination and focus became the deciding factors of the championship between come-back actor Jordan Herrera and radio jock Rico Robles
AT THE end of it all, only one stood victorious: ‘The Jaguar’, aka Jordan Herrera.
Jordan won all his matches to become the grand champion of the first season of Pinoy Mano-Mano: The Celebrity Boxing Challenge, which held its grand finals at The Arena in San Juan. Jordan won over Rico Robles by scoring 34 points against the latter’s 28. Jordan, buoyed by the presence at ringside of his partner Michelle Lopez (who flew in from San Francisco with their kids Tiffany and Kurt Daniel) and the largely pro-Jordan crowd, won a brand-new car and P500,000 for his chosen beneficiary Katrina Ramos.
In the two undercard bouts that preceded the main event, singer and ex-Pinoy Dream Academy finalist Chad Peralta needed only two rounds to finish off fellow singer and rap artist Blakdyak, while actor and BENCH model Jon Hall, who was unbeaten in all of his previous fights, lost to former Olympian and SEA Games medalist Reynaldo Galido in three rounds.
Even before the fight started, there were rumours that Jordan and Rico were already at each other’s throats over an issue involving their boxing gloves. A text message received by members of the press seated at ringside said that the two contenders very nearly didn’t make it to the ring because of the disagreement.
Eventually, though, the fight did get underway. After four rounds, Jordan was declared the winner on points. Even before the actual declaration, Jordan, feeling the euphoria of his win, fell face-first on the canvas and started to cry. After the referee raised Jordan’s arm and proclaimed him the winner, Jordan fell to his knees.
