GRIZZLY-VOICED SOUL singer James Morrison will play Media City’s outdoor amphitheatre next year, as part of the eighth annual Dubai International Jazz Festival.

Though he shares a name with the late great Doors frontman, Morrison is more often compared to the likes of Rod Stewart for his mellow yet expressive vocal style (which he attributes to a near deadly bout of whooping cough he contracted as a baby).

His debut LP Undiscovered shipped more than two million units, becoming one of the best selling albums of 2006 in the UK and featuring top 10 hits You Give Me Something and Wonderful World.

It also performed impressively in the States, where many a major British artist has sunk without a trace, peaking at number 24.

Last year, the 25-year-old scored another jackpot with tearjerker Broken Strings, a duet with Nelly Furtado which topped charts throughout Europe, and he also contributed to the Jason Mraz track Details in the Fabric.

For his Dubai show, James will play tunes from both Undiscovered and its follow-up Songs For You, Truths For Me. He will be supported on the night by Marion Meadows, Laura Izibor and Brett Dennen.
