The husband and wife had been rushed to Zulekha Hospital on Thursday morning but the husband passed away the same night, while his wife who was on a support system died on Saturday night after doctors failed in their battle to save both the mother and unborn child.

Dr Syed Mujtaba from the administration department of Zulekha hospital said, “We don't know the cause of death. The case has however been handed over to Buhaira police station in Sharjah because it is a 'medicolegal' case which means it is partly medical and partly legal.”

A source in Buhaira police station in Sharjah said that the Sharjah police will investigate the case because the couple were residents of Sharjah. The specimens taken from victims will be referred to Sharjah Forensic laboratory to investigate the cause of death. Sindhu's uncle, who works in the hospital, was overcome with grief and said he was in a state of shock and cannot comment on where they plan to perform the cremation rites.
