'I'm dying to do a Kill Bill film'

IT'S 3 O'CLOCK in the afternoon and Tabu is yawning. It's not her afternoon siesta that she's missing. But the topic of conversation, her marriage, is making her yawn! She needs a break from questions for which she doesn't have any "concrete answers".

The rumours of her supposed link-ups make Tabu sick. But talk about her Cheeni Kum co-star, the charming Amitabh Bachchan, with whom she's romantically paired, and Tabu's eyes sparkle. "He is special," she says. "His presence was highly comforting for me, especially when it would get mad on the sets."

Older man, romance and marriage, Tabu's done it in this movie, and in real life too. The lanky actress has no qualms about marrying an older man. "I am a free spirited person. Only an older man can control my free spirit. He'll pamper me, and let me do what I want. I can flourish with him," she declares.

"If I am with a younger guy, I know he'll be crushed under my personality. And I won't be able to get along with a guy of my own age simply because he'll compete with me. Today I have no patience and tolerance for all that."

This fascination for older men could be because she didn't have a father figure while growing up. "Perhaps I am unconsciously looking for a father in the man who'll come into my life," the single actress says.

Tabu has seen failed relationships at home. Her parents, and her sister Farha's divorce, could be the reason why she's not settling down. "If that was the case, I wouldn't have been in relationships. No, I am not influenced by their experiences. Life gives different experiences to different people," she says.

While every actress of her time minted money by doing typical commercial cinema, Tabu chose to do films that not just satisfied her, but also the audience.

Job satisfaction she certainly has, but what about her financial status, considering the kind of films she does aren't commercially viable.

"My needs are small. So is my lifestyle. I come from a simple middle-class background, where my mother was a teacher and grandparents were lecturers. My needs since then haven't soared much higher. I don't party. Nor is my friend circle such that I feel left out. I am very content," she insists.

Is she the most accomplished actress of our time? "No, there's lots more to do. I am going through a phase where I have become extremely selective about certain things but open to others. Like action movies. At this point I am dying to do a hardcore action film, something like Kill Bill or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. That's my ultimate wish at this point," she smiles.

Any other wish? "Yeah, to be paired with Aamir Khan!"
