DJ Benny Benassi who will be performing in the city on New Year's Eve as part of his world tour made his mark on the music world with his single Satisfaction. The Italy born Benassi collaborates and produces with cousin Alle.
Their first project "Benny Benassi presents The Biz", a mixture of electro, techno and house got them worldwide fame and popularity. Their first album "Hypnotica" saw its first single "Satisfaction" spend over a month at number one on France's official dance chart. Benassi took some time out to talk to City Times about remixes, electronic music and future plans.
How do think people in this part of the world see your music?
I'm about to find out... but I think music is a fairly universal message.
What do you think makes a great remix? Is there something you'd never remix?
From the point of view of stuff I remix, I have to like the track and the artist. I would never do a remix just for money. Remixes by others... I really enjoy people who bring rock music onto the dance floor...I'm thinking of historic remixes of U2, Bowie...
Where do you think "electronic" music is compared with say 10 years ago? How has it evolved and what role have you had in this change?
The machines used to making electronic music have evolved enormously. In a word, computer technology has brought about a real revolution. I think it's also tribalised into strands of dance music... house, techno, and a thousand hybrid genres...As for my role, well that is for others to decide what it is or has been.
Most interesting place you've performed?
There have been many because the success of "Satisfaction" has given me the opportunity to see so many places I'd never been to before. I particularly enjoyed my short tour of Brazil at the beginning of December.
What gives you "Satisfaction"?
