“I’m currently doing a film which requires this look,” he said, by way of an explanation. “I work around the year and inevitably I do some character and the directors like this look.”

For any other person what he is would be a great burden: son of a famous father and husband of a famous wife. “I don’t think about expectations and all that. I think more about the shot that I have to give, the scene that I have to do. I have to channelise my energy in being constructive.”

His last film was Dostana, about which he has been very happy. “I’m told that it’s doing well,” he said. “In fact, it has done very well in the UAE.”

Naturally, he said he is proud to belong to the film industry. “I think we always made films of international standards. We’ve a very mature, responsible and respectable film industry, which has always made wonderful films,” he pointed out. “I think the primary purpose of cinema is to entertain. And through that, if you can sort of leave a social message then that’s like icing on a cake.”

He is equally happy with his own career. “I have done about 35 films in ten years. I think it’s a wonderful time when an actor gets to do a film like Sarkar Raj or Dostana.”

When asked how the recent terrorists’ attack in Bombay has impacted the film industry, Abhishek Bacchhan said, “I wouldn’t know because I have not been in Bombay. But I’m sure it has had a great impact. People are scared to go out. It was a terrible tragedy. And I think it was a great act of cowardice of their part.”
