SHE’S RECENTLY CROPPED her mane quite short – with the tips dyed a chic shade of red – and the overall look is a sleek, yet somewhat funky one. Unfortunately, actress Udita Goswami is a little conscious of her current appearance; she hesitates for a few minutes before agreeing to pose for our photographer.

“Generally, I like to experiment; as you can see, I’ve gone completely crazy with my hair this time. It’s a little too short for my liking right now and I’m a bit conscious. But the guy I normally go to was leaving for LA for six months, so I needed to get it done before that,” explains the actress, when we quiz her on the subject. Goswami was in town earlier this weekend at the It’s Mirchi Club at the Ramee Royal Hotel, Bur Dubai, as their celebrity guest DJ.

Once she’s got the brief photo shoot out of the way, the actress is eager to discuss her forthcoming film, director Rajesh Ransinghe’s supernatural thriller Rokkk with Tanushree Dutta, which she claims will present her in a de-glamourised manner.

“My role in the film is that of a young, college going girl called Ahana who is studying law. For the first time in my career I’ve got the opportunity to play a character that is close to my real age. The story follows her as she gets a phone call one day, finds out her sister is missing and goes to Goa to find her,” states Goswami.

The actress also notes that typically she requires several script narrations before she agrees to take on a project. However with Rokkk the case was quite different; “My last film was Fox and for that movie I actually needed three narrations because I was just not convinced about what I was doing. I genuinely need a lot of persuasion to take on a film, which is why I do so few. But with Rokkk I immediately knew that I wanted to do it. The script is very strong and the director is very sure of what he’s doing. He’s the same one who started shows like Aahat and Shhh Koi Hai.”

The actress also has movies such as filmmaker Jagmohan Mudra’s Chase in her kitty. Then she’s got Sunny Deol’s The Man in which she plays a spy and Hello India with Akshay Kumar.

On the personal front, Goswami has been in the news plenty for her rocky relationship with former beau director Mohit Suri who helmed her film Zeher.

“I’ve been in the news so much for my personal life. Thankfully I haven’t been connected to a lot of different people, I’m not that kind of a girl anyway, and it’s been just the one guy. But this is one time in my life where I really need to talk about my films rather than what’s happening in my personal life. I’m done with it.”

Udita Goswami reveals her secret obsession:

“This is my sixth or seventh visit to Dubai but I’ve never done any tourist-like thing in the city - I’ve never gone for a desert safari or skiing. I never manage to do anything except go to Ikea. That place is a favourite of mine. If I’m down here and have only an hour to spend, I will go to Ikea and buy stuff for my house. This time I’m here for two to three days so I’ve got my camera and plan to explore Dubai a lot more.”
