Gina shared the good news with the members of the media at the press conference of Ysabella, the new primetime soap featuring Judy Ann Santos. Gina plays Judy Ann’s mother in the highly-anticipated soap. The role on Ysabella makes it two in a row for Gina, who also stars in a youth-oriented show, Go Kada Go, on the same network. In fact, Gina was in another part of ABS-CBN, taping for Go Kada Go, when she was informed that there was a press conference scheduled for Ysabella. She immediately went upstairs to join her co-stars at the presidential table.

After the question-and-answer exchange with the press, Gina sat down for some one-on-one interviews with select journalists, at which she shared the text message forwarded to her by Kubrador’s producer, lawyer Joji Alonso. It read in part: 'Ms. Gina, I’ve talked to Mr. Daniels of Global Films regarding the red-carpet premiere (of Kubrador) in New York in January 2008. As of now, it’s only you and Jeff (the film’s director Jeffrey Jeturian) who are confirmed to be invited to the premiere by the Museum of Modern Art.'

The film has earned for Gina three Best Actress awards in foreign film festivals: the first was at the eighth Osian Cinefan Festival of Asian Cinema in New Delhi, India. This was followed by another victory, this time at the 33rd International Festival of Independent Film in Brussels, Belgium. The third came courtesy of the 26th Amiens International Film Festival in France. In addition to winning Best Actress honours for Gina, Kubrador has also been widely praised by critics after screenings in Greece, Italy, Cairo and Dubai, among other countries.

Gina, who started acting back in the 60s, is one of the few “veteran” actresses who is still active in showbusiness — and for that reason alone, she says she cannot be anything else but grateful.

The fact that she was considered for a role in Ysabella (which will reportedly take the place of Maria Flordeluna on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida block) is a blessing in itself, she says. Gina is excited to be working alongside Judy Ann, who recently celebrated her 20th anniversary in showbiz and who is considered probably the brightest star of her generation, along with Claudine Barretto, who’s currently expecting a baby. Judy Ann herself has been rumoured to be considering marriage to real-life sweetheart Ryan Agoncillo, who’s also part of the Ysabella cast. 'We have so much fun on the set; it hardly seems like work,' she says.

Because of this, she doesn’t feel that there’s anything lacking in her life, even if she is currently single. 'I’m fulfilled,' says Gina. 'I have my children and my dog (with me), and I have my career, which is doing great. What’s to complain about? As far as my personal life is concerned, I guess that’s a closed book for now. As they say in movie parlance, I’m ready to "pack up".'
