The pinnacle of chilly cheer is a cool retreat for one and all.
Housed in Hall 6 of the Dubai World Trade Centre and sponsored by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, this event is running for the second time in DSS. Built with the theme of an Arabic City with its intricate details, the temperature controlled zones offers a plethora of activities and fun things to try and do. At one corner of the City is the Ice Castle where kids can enjoy a blizzard, ski, shape ice and have snow ball fights while at the other end they can engage in small but exciting hovercraft rides. A special attraction here is the Ice Maze that is dark and scary, one slip up and you bang on the ice - a wonderful way to spend the hot summer afternoon.
Plus, there is also a lot to see in the Eskimo Village and Ice Olympics Arena too. Every little aspect of living in snow-capped areas has been brought forth at this venue. Visitors can see how Eskimos lived, how they did their fishing and what sports they played. In fact, they can themselves play ice hockey and ski using make-shift wooden skis or even do some fishing with plastic and rubber fish. Also present at the venue are the ice-carving artists who demonstrate and also help kids learn the fine art of ice imagery.
But that's not all, there is more fun in store for kids participating in Ali Baba's Treasure Hunt. The object of the game is to find the hidden gift and the event is taking place in a building with many lamps, prizes are being given to the one who succeeds first. Last but not least are the edutaining activities at the Splashy & Sparky Club, where kids learn how to utilise water and electricity without wastage. The mascots, Splashy (the water droplet) and Sparky (represents electricity) teach the kids on the basics of conservation and responsible behaviour.
Each zone is a world of adventure, fun and thrills. Some games are for free while others come with costs attached, however all in all it's a treat for the whole family. Doors to this venue of shivering fun are open from 3pm to 10pm daily. Tickets are priced at Dh5 for kids and Dh10 for adults and include a few free rides. Entry for children with special needs is free. Plus, a 50 per cent discount can be availed by charity associations, summer camps, and association for general benefit.
