LOS ANGELES - “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino has been released from a North Carolina hospital after overdosing on aspirin and sleeping pills earlier this week, her manager said.
“She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans,” Brian Dickens told Reuters after the singer was released on Wednesday.
“She is more committed than ever to her daughter and her work because they are her heart, her soul and inspiration.”
The R&B singer, who won the TV singing contest in 2004, took an overdose after being named in divorce papers filed by the wife of her long-time boyfriend. Paula Cook also said she believed her husband Antwuan and Fantasia had made a sex tape.
Fantasia’s manager later said she was “heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused.”
Her third album, “Back to Me”, debuts on August 24 and a second season of her reality TV show “Fantasia for Real”, about her career and her personal life, kicks off later this year.
