TB Manikandan, an Indian working at Astoria Hotel, could not hide his excitement on winning one kilogramme of gold while for Faiezeh Aleali, an Iranian, it was a sense of déjà vu when she won the one carat Solitaire diamond in the second of the 10 raffles during the 10-week shopping and retail DSS promotion.

As part of its innovative promotion, the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group has offered residents and visitors a chance to win 10 kilos of Gold and 10 Carats of Solitaire diamonds, upon jewellery purchased at approximately 350 participating jewellery outlets in Dubai.

Holder of Coupon No. 43260, Manikandan wants to invest his prize money in the construction of his house back in Kerala. "This is a pleasant surprise, and I thank the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group and DSS for the same. I have been living here for six years and this is the first time ever I have won something. I am extremely happy and elated," said Manikandan, who plans to get into wedlock shortly.

He added: "I have participated in the Dubai Shopping Festival Raffles on a number of occasions earlier but it was my first try at DSS. In fact, all my friends had filled the coupon, but I was probably destined to win...."
