Esha was to be the showstopper for designer Riyaz Gangji and YS 18 Jewellery at India International Jewellery Fashion Week which started on Sunday. A grand runway entry was planned for the actress, with a genuine diamond-studded outfit priced at approximately Rs5 crore. The jewellery firm was pulling out all the stops for Esha at this prestigious show held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Juhu, Mumbai.

But apparently, a day before her scheduled appearance, she cancelled. Sudip Sethi of the jewellery firm had this to say, “Esha’s representative, Pamela Gangwani, said the actress had readily to do our show. But on Saturday, Pamela sent us a text saying that Esha had to leave town and wouldn’t be able to do our show.”

There was no written contract with Esha but she had sent the jewellers her measurements by email, agreed to a photo shoot the day before and even discussed her fees with them. Designer Riyaz, still in a state of shock at the last-minute cancellation says, “I have had showstoppers for years… I have never signed a written agreement with any of the stars.”

Esha has a rather strange way of explaining her cancellation. “I agreed to be the showstopper on the basis of our professional relationship. I guess the deal fell through; we parted amicably. My manager informed them well in advance that I wouldn’t be able to attend.”

One guesses the designer and the jewellers are still reeling from this “well in advance” information.
