Away from the bustle of a busy city, awaits the ultimate desert adventure, offering plenty of fun, thrills, beautiful rides through scenic countryside and a chance to explore the wilds of Dubai and Sharjah.
If you own a 4x4 vehicle, then this is your chance to come out with the big boys on trip of discovery and learn for yourself how much fun it can be to drive your 4WD in the Desert on March 10. It is going to be an adventurous, yet a very very safe drive with route navigation, taped route marking , rescue teams and guidance / assistance / support teams to care of you in case you get stuck in the sand or go off the navigable route.
A highlight of this event is the use of Next generation ( NG ) GPS Satellite Mapping technology where the latest equipment from reputed manufacturers like GARMIN were tested during the route making process. Now it is possible to monitor one's position at any time with moving satellite maps and colour screens inside the vehicle. The readings are accurate to a square of 20 Cm x 20 Cm.
The Marshals list on this KT fun drive event is most impressive. They are a group of volunteers bound by a common force — love for driving in the desert. Professionals from all walks of life have come together to help the social cause of promoting off driving to among others in Dubai.
Chief Marshal and route director — Shahid Ahmad, a former fighter pilot himself has assembled this impressive array of Pilots, Flight Engineers, Company CEOs, lawers, doctors, Charterd Accountants, Entrepreneurs, high ranking corporate executives.
All men of extraordinary skills, leadership talent, calibre and substance. Entry to this select group is strictly by invitation.
With such a group in force, safety and security of the participants is ensured.
Marshal teams are further divided up into various roles for this event. There is the lead marshal car, to take the convoy on the route. This will be driven by Shahid Ahmad. A course opening team that will leave an hour ahead of the flag off. Static rescue teams in difficult sections, Mobile rescue teams where a KT Marshal will command a professional Safari Driver from Planet Tours for rescue missions in case any participant is stuck in the sand, a forward sweep team to get all stranded vehicles in line and a rear sweep to ensure everybody is out of the desert.
A communications control has been set up to liaise with all check points, Marshals, camp site and any vehicle that is lost or stuck and needs help.
The Navigation technique in the desert for this event will be four fold GPS waypoints and track, while route notes with tulip charts provided to all participants with arrows and tiger tape for route markings corresponding to the tulip charts
Marshals lead smaller convoys and detachments so participants don't get lost.
The event is not a race or rally, but a fun event where a normal person gets a chance to drive his 4 WD in the desert and explore the beautiful countryside. It is a day to be enjoyed with family and friends.
Camp activities include a sumptuous barbecue dinner after all that driving, a dancing stage with a DJ and plenty of dancing to unwind from the driving.
The route has been designed with a beginner to intermediate driver in mind. Chances of vehicles getting seriously stuck in the desert are remote. There will be no broken bumpers, twisted fenders or bent bull bars.
The route has been designed on established tracks only to prevent any damage to the fragile desert eco system.
Shahid Ahmad, the Route director has over 300 off road events to his credit across three continents. On this particular route, Shahid has been over and over at least two dozen times to give it a final shape.
Prior to the event, at the time of registration, every participant will be given an instructions booklet with what to carry and how to drive in the desert with basic recovery techniques in case of any minor trouble.
