The women of the North West put on their finest frilly frocks for their annual fashion parade at Ladies’ Day.
One of the biggest stars was new mother-to-be Coleen Rooney, who tried to hide the evidence under a flowing dress by Roberto Cavalli.
The freezing wind thwarted her efforts, however, by pulling the bright pink frock tight against her tiny bump.
Mrs Rooney has told friends she is 12 weeks pregnant with her first child but vowed not to cancel her 23rd birthday present from husband Wayne - a day out at the racecourse.
She informed the crowd, “It’s my birthday, thank you”, as she entered the Merseyside course to take her seat in the luxury Queen Mother’s Stand.
Mrs Rooney’s presence at Aintree has sparked a flurry of bets on baby names.
Bookmakers were offering odds the child would be called Victoria after Victoria Beckham, 12/1, Cheryl after Cheryl Cole, 14/1, and Ruby after Grand National favourite My Will’s jockey Ruby Walsh, 16-1. The top boy’s names are Alex after Sir Alex Ferguson and Rio after Rio Ferdinand at 6/1.
