Canvasses and Canticles at Bliss Cafe' in the mountain city of Baguio, the famous Philippines summer capital.

Gutierrez's art exhibit, featured 21 works that represent aspects of the five elements: fire, earth, water, air and spirit. Executed in pastel, watercolour and acrylic, her works include intimate portraits, sweeping landscapes and relationships. Along with the artwork are verses of poetry, also from her personal body of work.

Her works will be on display until June 16 at the Bliss Cafe. In the evening, the artist serenaded a group of artists, students, educators and young professionals at Ayuyang Bar with select songs from her award-winning album, Uyayi: A Collection of Philippine Lullabies and her soon-to-be released Mater Vitae: Whispers of a New World.

Gutierrez, who was once featured in the cover of Time magazine for her environmental efforts, has been painting since her college years. But this was the first time she had put up an exhibition.

Bliss Cafe' owners Jim Ward and Shanti Isla, she believes share a similar advocacy for peace, art and nature. She also attributes much of her inspiration to her devotion to the Blessed Mother, who is depicted in her centrepiece work, Ina.
