from the PMPC Star Awards for Television is one of his most recent achievements) says he is enjoying his new role as frontman of the rock band Kilokit.
“I love expressing myself through music,” he reveals. “Sure, I can do the same through acting, but it’s not the same.”
How so? “My fans don’t [really] get to know me when I act—they get to know the character I’m playing,” he says. “That’s why I give them a chance to do so through my music, especially when I sing my own lyrics.”
Some people may see Carlo as a poser (i.e. an actor who thinks he can be a rock star but doesn’t have the talent for it), when in fact he is anything but. Not only is he a gifted singer and songwriter, but he can also play a wide variety of instruments. “I do bass lines and play guitar; I also play the drums and the piano,” he reveals.
So what has he been doing with all that talent? The answer: Putting it to good use in the studio. Kilokit’s debut album will be released soon, and what’s more, he wrote most of the songs on it.
When asked about his creative process, he had only this to say: “[When I write,] it’s like I go on autopilot. I usually do the melody first, and then—I can’t explain how or why—the lyrics just come to me.”
Carlo says that Kilokit’s music has been met with enthusiasm, most notably from the Philippine rock community.
“At first I thought they wouldn’t take the band seriously just because I’m the frontman,” he says. “But they ended up liking our music.”
