‘Captain America’ beats ‘Potter’ at box office

LOS ANGELES - Superhero movie ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ triumphed over the US and Canadian box offices with $65.8 million in weekend ticket sales, according to studio estimates released on Sunday.

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2’ finished second with $48.1 million as its domestic sales fell sharply from the film’s record-breaking opening last weekend. Romantic comedy ‘Friends with Benefits’ held the No. 3 spot on box office charts with $18.5 million.

‘Captain America’ was released by Parmamout Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc. Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, distributed ‘Deathly Hallows - Part 2.’ ‘Friends with Benefits’ is from Screen Gems, a unit of Sony Corp.
