Actor Rahul Bose, who played a DJ in Pyaar Ke Side Effects, says filmmakers are giving their lead roles interesting jobs because that's how society is these days. It's a reflection of what society is going through.

Indian cinema has always been a slave to society. It just shows that the upper class in the country is opting for professions they're passionate about, not just jobs that'll give them financial stability.

So they got good jobs, but how realistic are the portrayals? Thorough research on the concerned profession and analysing the work and lifestyles might be a good idea, but not all directors and actors have the time or inclination for that. So we have exaggerated or unreal portrayals of these professions, say movie-goers. You have Preity Zinta as the fashion editor in KANK, who believes in all play and no work, parties all night, but is never seen in the office. Or better still, Sushmita Sen as the ultra glam teacher in Main Hoon Na coming to class in backless cholis and expecting students to concentrate in class.
