SO WHAT if she has been in Bollywood only for two years and is just four films old, Kangana Ranaut has proved her mettle as an actress in each one of them.

While Gangster and Woh Lamhe saw her in pivotal roles, her next film —Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion —has her in a key role too. The film is a realistic take on the good, bad and ugly facets of the fashion industry, true to Bhandarkar's brand of films.

But there seems to be a definite lack of out and out commercial films on her resume. Point her this and Kangana clarifies, "For people, mainstream cinema is probably shooting in foreign locations, singing and dancing, expensive clothing, love triangle et al. For me, what matters the most is the weight of my character in the film." She counters further, "If my role brings out my calibre and creativity as an actress then why should I bother if the film belongs to the mainstream or offbeat genre? I would rather prefer to be jobless than working in commercial potboilers where I don't have any scope to prove myself." Now that's some conviction, we must say.

We ask her about bagging Anurag Basu's next, yet untitled project with Hrithik Roshan and a surprised Kangana admits smilingly, "Yes I have signed the film with Hrithik which will be directed by Anurag Basu, but how did this news reach you? There is nothing much that I can reveal right now about the project, but will surely speak when the right time comes." We're waiting till then, Kangana so are all your fans.
