Richard Ashcroft is the first big name confirmed to play the Sandance music festival on Friday, October 14.

The Verve frontman comes to The Atlantis hotel on the Palm Jumeirah for the beach fest’s third edition – where he will be accompanied by fellow a live acts and DJs (to be confirmed).

The Northern English singer-songwriter formed The Verve in 1990. Together, the rock five-piece release two critically acclaimed albums before releasing their masterpiece Urban Hymns in 1997.

Considered a seminal British 90s album, it went multi-platinum around the world and contained hits such as Bittersweet Symphony, The Drugs Don’t Work and Lucky Man.

After The Verve split in 1999, Ashcroft has had success as a solo artist, releasing three UK Top 10 albums before reteaming with his old bandmates between 2007 and 2009. At Sandance, the 39-year-old will play an acoustic set at sunset, including hits from both The Verve and his solo career for his first show in the region.

Ticket details and the full Sandance line-up will be announced shortly.
