AND THE AWARDS GO TO ... BEST PHOTOGRAPHERS

The five-day long DSS Photography Exhibition 2005 culminated with the prize-giving ceremony at a gala dinner held on the occasion of the World Photographers Day at the Al Multaqa Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday.

Organised jointly by the Dubai Summer Surprises Media Centre, the Arab Union of Photographers and sponsored by Kodak, three winners for the Professional, Press and Talented Photography dealing with DSS and its mascot Modhesh, were announced by Jamal Al Saadi, Chief Photographer of Reuters in Lebanon and Syria and Head of the Lebanese Photographers Syndicate, who was flown in for the awards ceremony.

S. Kumar bagged the Professional Photographers award for his picture of Modhesh on Shaikh Zayed Road with the portraits of Late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the background while Tracy Brands got the Press Photography award for her photograph of a young girl jumping on the trampoline, and Mekh Paija took home the Talent Category award for his picture of the Modhesh Fun City Entrance at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
