Try buying your woman a diamond — even a wee little one will do — and see the glint in her eyes.
A pair of jewellery designers who know this first-hand is Falguni Mehta and Anupama Khanna, who have exploited this 'need' into megabucks. Their annual exhibits in Dubai have become must-haves amongst the women of Dubai. What's curious is that, unlike other shows where only the rich and famous are seen, their shows attract women of all ages ... right from teens to the aged, such is their range.
Their designs span the whole range of jewellery in both white and yellow gold, right from bracelets and pendants to ear rings and necklaces. They use a lot of precious and semi-precious coloured stones to tempt women to pick up their handiwork — pearl, turquoise and coral being the flavours of the season.
Most of their jewellery is eye-catching but what they are famous for is their ear rings and these are the ones which attract the younger generation, which takes to them for their wearability and contemporary nature.
Asked why their ear rings are famous, Falguni says, "This is the easiest way for people to make an individual statement ... an extension of their personality, without a huge expense.
Going by the response to their jewellery, one can only say they have got their finger firmly on the pulse of the market in Dubai. The duo is holding an exhibition of their jewellery at the Designers' Lounge, Al Mina Road, Satwa, today. — BJ
