Four popular comedians, Abish Mathew, Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian and Kaneez Surka, are collaborating for their first performance in Dubai as a comedy improv group - The Improvisers.
With spontaneous games, music jams and quirky sketches, expect a fresh dose of laughter with each act.

Abish Mathew
Who is your comedic inspiration?
In stand up, icons like Tina Fey are my inspiration, however, for improv, it's a different story. A few years ago Kenny (Sebastian) and I went to New York to attend an improv course. Our teachers were guys who have been doing improv for a decade or more and watching them perform completely unprompted was mesmerising and inspiring for sure!

The ability to make people laugh is a rare gift - how do you feel about making the audience forget their worries for a while?
It's humbling and makes me feel thankful.

Are people offended too easily nowadays?
It is absolutely fine to be offended, but just because you're offended doesn't give you the right to stop it.

What would you say to someone who didn't find you funny?
With improv I don't judge at all - because to be fair - it's all unscripted and spontaneous.

Do you think it's important to bring contemporary issues to the spotlight through humour?
I personally think that comedy is a good platform to talk about issues and for me it adds purpose to the work.

Kaneez Surka
Who is your comedic inspiration?
Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell.

The ability to make people laugh is a rare gift - how do you feel about making the audience forget their worries for a while?
Once I got a message from someone saying that my comedy had truly made their horrible day better and I felt honoured.

Are people offended too easily nowadays?
I think there will always be people who get offended but also people who really enjoy the content.

What would you say to someone who didn't find you funny?
I think it's a personal choice and as artists we should carry on.

Do you think it's important to bring contemporary issues to the spotlight through humour?
I think this is just a sign of the natural progression in the industry.

Kenny Sebastian
Who is your comedic inspiration?
Jim Carrey and Jerry Seinfeld.

The ability to make people laugh is a rare gift - how do you feel about making the audience forget their worries for a while?
I do comedy to lift people's moods and entertain them, I'm lucky now that entertaining people has become my profession.

Are people offended too easily nowadays?
If your goal as a comedian is to make people re-think their beliefs then you should never aim to be politically correct.

What would you say to someone who didn't find you funny?
In every show at least 5-10% of the audience won't find you funny. It's something you have to live with!

Do you think it's important to bring contemporary issues to the spotlight through humour?
If your purpose as a comedian is to make people aware about social and contemporary issues then you automatically bring every topic to the spotlight.

Kanan Gill is a former engineer who switched to a career in comedy and is a stand-up comic, YouTuber and musician. He co-hosted the immensely popular YouTube series Pretentious Movie Reviews with friend and fellow comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath.
