Dubbed 'Mozart in the Oasis', the celebration will be part of the Sixth Al Ain Classical Music Festival scheduled to be held from March 8 to 12.

Featuring musical tributes to the famous classical composer, the show is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Concert Committee, in cooperation with the Austrian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, the Emirates Natural History Group and InterContinental Resort-Al Ain.

"We are proudly mark the 25th anniversary of Mozart's birthday by entirely dedicating the Sixth Al Ain Classical Music Festival 2006 to this genius," said Zaki Nusseibeh, Advisor to the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Concert Committee.

He told City Times that prominent European musicians will entertain classical music fans during the festival which is hoped to promote tourism in the country.

He said the three days of the festival would feature a series of concerts performed both outdoors in the historic Al Jahely Fort as well as on stage together with organised guided tours to visit Al Ain's famous archaeological and historic sites.

The event will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed, the Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region.

According to Dr Gerald Kriechbaum, Austrian Ambassador to the UAE, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra promises to charm the audience with a series of Mozart's masterpieces.

Founded in 1946, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra is Vienna's leading chamber ensemble and over the years has attained recognition as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world.

The event will be offering a number of choices to the fans between recital and guide tours, he said.

He said the main feature of the event would be the concerts at the Al Jaheli Fort Courtyard where the opening concert on the first day and gala concert on the second day of the festival will be held.

The fort is one of the grandest forts in Al Ain city and is considered one of the most exquisite forts in regards to the art of structure and the local islamic military architecture.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) showed throughout his life excellent musical gifts at a very early age, starting to compose at the age of five. His dazzling skills amazed his audience in different parts of the world where he spent much of his time travelling.

The composer died in Vienna on December 5, 1791. In his short but prolific life he had written 626 works- the last on his deathbed! This enormous achievement maybe attributed not only to his hard work, but also to his ability to compose whilst otherwise preoccupied. He even composed when playing his beloved billiards.
