Presented by The New York University Institute Abu Dhabi in association with Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and The Indian Embassy, the festival will be held in the Al Dhafra Auditorium, Cultural Foundation (ADACH), Abu Dhabi, and run over a period of almost a month, commencing on February 26 and ending on March 22.
The distinguished festival will feature screenings of classic cinematic offerings such as Jodhaa Akbar, Pukar, Mirza Ghalib, Chaudhvin ka Chand, Mughal-e-Azam, Najma, Mere Mehboob, Garm Hawa, Mammo, Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro, Fiza, Sardari Begum, Pakeezah and Umrao Jaan.
And making appearances during this exclusive celebration of the rich and irreplaceable influences of Muslim culture seen in Indian cinema (all the way from the 1930s to present day), will be attended by eminent cinematic personalities such as well-versed directors and filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker, Saeed Mirza, Khalid Mohamed, Shyam Benegal, M.S. Sathyu and J.P. Dutta, Mehelli Modi (son of director Sohrab Modi), Arun Dutt (son of director Guru Dutt), veteran actress Farida Jalal and film scholar Poonam Arora.
Presiding over this prestigious film festival will be directors Richard Allen (Professor of Cinema Studies at New York University) and Ira Bhaskar (Professor of Cinema Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University). The festival will be followed by a workshop on the subject of Islamicate Cultures of Bombay Cinema that will be attended by an internationally renowned group of filmmakers and scholars.
