Investigations revealed that the two vans belonged to a person outside the country. The police kept a watch and when the vans arrived, they conducted a search and found over three million pills in the vans.

When Nawaf was confronted, he denied any knowledge of the drugs, and said he had teamed up with some friends to jointly import the cars. His friends must have put the drugs in the cars, he alleged. He was subsequently referred to court which found him guilty and awarded him the sentence.
