Vachani reappointed ESC regional representative

DUBAI — The Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) of India has reappointed Kamal Vachani, a Dubai-based businessman as its Middle East representative.

Vachani, director of Al Maya Group, a leading supermarket chaian in the UAE, has been representing ESC in the Middle East since 1999, said a statement from the New Delhi-based autonomous organisation under Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India.

D.K. Sareen, Executive Director of ESC, who was on a Dubai visit said India’s exports to the Middle East of IT software, hardware and services had grown multifold since Vachani had taken over as the regional representative of ESC in the Middle East. “We are fortunate to have him as our representative for the Middle East,” he said at a meeting with the Indian Ambassador M.K. Lokesh.

The Indian envoy offered all help from the Indian mission to step up exports of the country’s IT software and hardware to the Middle East.

India’s IT exports to the Middle East surged 154 per cent to $2.5 billion during 2008-2009 compared to $980 million in 2007-2008, making the region as the fourth largest export destination for Indian IT firms in the world. Exports of electronics hardware to the UAE increased from $227 million in 2007-08 to $466 million in the year 2008-09, a growth of 105 per cent. Exports of software and services to Dubai recorded a growth of 234 per cent during the year 2008-09 over the preceding year.issacjohn@khaleejtimes.com
