US firms to attend IDEX-2003

ABU DHABI The US Embassy said American companies will participate in the IDEX-2003 show, brushing aside fears that US firms would stay away because of the situation over Iraq.

There had been rumours in the capital that US firms concerned about war in the region would avoid this, the sixth IDEX.

But a spokesman at the US Embassy said US firms would participate fully and and support the International Defence Exhibition scheduled for March 16-20 in Abu Dhabi.

He said the US Departments of Defence and Commerce will features the US Army, which will exhibit combat and support systems.

In addition, to showcasing the lastest US equipment, IDEX will provide an opportunity to demonstrate US commitments to Southwest Asia, he added.

Twenty eight American firms will take part at the US pavilion organised by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).

The 1,171 square metre pavilion will be in the main exhibit hall no 4, where leading manufacturers will present their latest defense technologies.

Manufacturers coming to Adu Dhabi include US firms Boeing , ITT, General Dynamics, Textron, Harris, Kollsman and many other.

Lockheed Martin, GE, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon are also participating.

The products on display include military shelters, military footwear, tactical and armored vehicles, jet engines, SAT/NAV products, surveillance cameras, ready-to-eat meals, guns and other weapons, bulletproof vests, hand-free hydration systems and night vision goggles.

IDEX 2003 has been certified by the US Department of Commerce and enjoys extensive US Embassy support.

The US Embassy will staff a booth at the show to introduce the diverse range of services provided by the US Commercial Services.

The American Business Group of the Abu Dhabi (ABG), representing 250 firms, has also teamed up with the US Embassy to promote IDEX.
