abu dhabi - Universal Hospital conducted the first UAE Palliative Care Conference at the Sofitel Hotel, Corniche.
The Conference, which was accredited by HAAD with 9.5 CME hours, aimed to bring about an integrated approach into patient care and improve the awareness in the science, art, and ethics of Palliation in the UAE.
Dr Shabeer Nellikode, managing director of Universal Hospital, said that he hoped to transform wellness through such educational programme.
"The basic philosophy of Palliation to ease the suffering and optimise the quality of the patients' lives is something that everyone from all walks of life can benefit from," he said.
. As a Clinician, it is heartening to see the concept of care evolve into compassionate care. I am excited to be a part of this change," he said.
The conference was dedicated to raise awareness and knowledge among medical professionals about a symptomatic approach to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from serious and/or life-threatening diseases.
The event demonstrated the importance of extending the care to the families, who can otherwise become emotionally and physically, overwhelmed trying to cope with the harsh reality of their loved ones' chronic suffering or imminent loss.
More emphasis was laid on providing multi-disciplinary care to patients in a Palliative setting. The CME was a true reflection of the same as the speakers were a brilliant ensemble of leading international Practitioners from various fields of expertise across the globe.
Dr. M. R. Rajagopal (also known as the Father of Palliative Care in India) started the CME program with an enlightening keynote speech on the concept and application of Palliative Care. Dr. Hasnain Haider-Shah (an American Board certified Consultant Neuro-intervention and Pain Management, Universal Hospital) spoke about managing pain in terminal patients.
