A series of road shows in three cities of the UK were held from June 28 to July 1 in line with the department's aggressive marketing and promotional agenda to tap growth opportunities in this important market which resulted in effectively raising awareness of the emirate and the DTCM's role in the UK market.

The UK is the largest source market of visitors to Dubai. There were almost 5.5 million visitors to Dubai from across the world in 2004, out of which 605,240 were from the UK, a 32 per cent increase from 458,451 in 2003. The emirate's trade with the UK registered a 92.1 per cent increase during this period. The road show attracted a high level of attendance from reputed organisations including the major tour operators, travel agencies and MICE organisations and comprised of five events, including exhibitions and meetings across Manchester, Glasgow and London. The DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Khalifa Ali Buamaim, who represented the department at the road shows, was very optimistic about its outcome. The importance of this market encouraged a strong contingent of companies from Dubai to attend at each event. The DTCM's UK & Ireland representative office implemented a comprehensive marketing campaign for the successful implementation of the road shows by securing a strong branding and positioning of the road shows by creating and implementing a dedicated road show logo and efficient branding which was used across all correspondence.
