UAE shares extend losses

DUBAI — UAE shares dropped for a second day this week, with the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) General Index losing 18.63 points, or 0.3 per cent, to close at 5,422.82 and the Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM) Index sliding 0.2 per cent at 4,842.22 points.

Commercial Bank of Dubai led the losers on DFM with a fall of 4.7 per cent to Dh9.15 while National Central Cooling Co, also known as Tabreed, dropped two per cent to Dh2.45 a day after it announced plans to sell convertible trust certificates due by 2011 in the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

The Kuwaiti-based asset-management company, International Financial Advisors, remained flat at Dh11.60. It said in a statement posted on the Dubai bourse yesterday that it plans to increase its capital by 60 per cent.
