UAE Keen to Share Knowledge, Technology: Lubna

HYDERABAD — UAE Foreign Trade Minister Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi and Heavy Industries Minister in Hyderabad Kana Narayana, opened on Thursday the sessions of the trade promotion tour in Hyderabad, the third station of Shaikha Lubna’s tour after New Delhi and Mumbai.

The inauguration of the event titled: “Why the UAE” was attended by Mohammed Sultan Al Owais, UAE Ambassador to India, Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and other senior officials. Also present were a number of the Indian businesspersons and investors.

Shaikha Lubna emphasised importance of the strategic trade partnership between the UAE and India, adding that the UAE was keen to bolstering the partnership through spurring India to increase its investments in the UAE as well as exchange of expertise and knowledge, particularly in the area of technology.

She noted that the mutual trade between the UAE and India stood at over $32billion in 2008, constituting 10 per cent of the UAE total non oil foreign Trade.

The UAE minister underlined that India ranks number one worldwide in regards to the UAE non oil exports at $4.9 billion. Meanwhile the re-exportation to India put at over $10billion. India ranks second in the world in regard to imports touching about $17 billion.

Shaikha Lubna said Hyderabad is strategic for boosting the trade exchange between the UAE and India, urging the business community in Hyderabad to seize investment opportunities in the UAE. —
