UAE calls for greater Arab free zone

ABU DHABI — Shaikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of economy, has called on the Arab countries to develop the role of free zones in trade and take significant steps towards achieving the greater Arab free zone.

While addressing Arab Ministers of Economy and Trade at the opening ceremony of the 77th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, she stressed that Arab countries are close to achieving the greater Arab free zone.

“We are quite sure that this achievement will give us what we aspire to get. This is confirmed by the statistics in the Arab unified economic report about growth rate in inter-Arab trade which is close to $65 billion in 2004," she said.
