Travel group elects 11-member body

DUBAI - Around 100 members of the recently-formed Dubai Travel and Tour Agent Group voted in a representative committee of 11 members yesterday at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

Dr Anwar Gargash, Member of the Board and Head of DCCI's Economic Affairs and Commercial Activities Committee chaired the vote, which was conducted by secret ballot from a list of 19 nominees. Abdul Rahman Al-Mutaiwee, Director General of DCCI, and Ahmed Al Banna, DCCI Deputy Director General, also supervised the election.

The 11 members chosen to sit on the Travel and Tour Agent Group's representative committee are: Marie-Anne Benedict, General Manager of Al Futtaim Travel, Nahendra Bhatia, Managing Director of Team Travel and Tours, Munther Hilal, General Manager of Al Naboodah Travel and Tourism, Juti Panchatia, General Manager of Sharjah National Travel and Tourism Agency, Juma Saif Rashid Bin Bakhit, Chairman of Airlink International, Mishal Kanoo, Deputy Chairman of Kanoo Travel, Samuel Poddar, General Manager of Mohebi Aviation, Jasjit Singh Jaaj, Group General Manager of International Travel Services (Galadari Group), Tanvir Khawaja, Managing Director of Arabian Air Travel, Rashid Al Noori, Senior General Manager of Dnata Agencies, and Salah Ibrahim Sharaf, Managing Director of Sharaf Travel.

Ali Monassa, Vice Chairman of Net Group of Companies, and Fateh Al Youssef, General Manager of Kazim Travels, were chosen to serve as reserve committee members.

The committee is expected to hold its first meeting within the next two weeks to elect a chairman, vice-chairman and general secretary. General assemblies of the group, which has the legal backing of DCCI, will convene at the DCCI at least once every three to four months. Dr Gargash urged the newly elected committee to take full advantage of its new role and to express the views of members proactively. He said: "We want real decision-makers on these committees."

Mr Al Noori of Dnata said: "The DCCI has given the travel sector an opportunity to voice its concerns and this is something that people have been wanting for a long time. This group will help achieve better results and serve the public better."

Mr Munther Hilal of Al Naboodah Travel and Tourism, said promoting greater professionalism should be a priority of the group.
