DUBAI — The Jam Jar Dubai, in collaboration with Grey Noise, will showcase a unique and compelling exhibition titled ‘Let’s Talk’ from October 8- 29 at the The Jam Jar Gallery in Al Quoz.
Five artists, Lala Rukh, Ayesha
Jatoi, Mehreen Murtaza, Fahad Burki and Ayaz Jokhio enter into a vibrant tête-à-tête, resulting in a body of
work that takes the audience through a varied range of mediums including sound, miniature installation, new
media, etc. Communication, or the lack of it, is a very pressing issue in today’s age.
This thought has been translated in to the language of these artists, whose use of various mediums to speak to each other becomes a testament to their diversity and yet, holds a beacon to their attempt at becoming one voice.
The work has been installed in a manner that makes it seem like each artist is trying to express an opinion to each other, promising to give the audience an interactive experience of thoughts expressed in art.
At the forefront is a sound piece created by Lala Rukh. An absolute absence of physical work is bound to surprise the audience, only to grab their attention with the depth and solitude in the sounds chosen by the artist, urging one to pause and listen.
Ayesha Jatoi picks up on Lala Rukh’s use of sound but comically and enigmatically tells of those unaffected by the politics. Leading us through a 28-foot long corridor in single file, a silent explosion awaits us in the form of a Siya Kalam miniature painting.
This orderly chaos then leads to Mehreen Murtaza’s red cubes and luscious red grounds that question the relation of religion to science. Huge mixed media prints stand apart from the rest of the work.
But not to be outdone or set aside, the audience is gifted with Ayaz Jokhio’s cluster of graves. Much to the surprise of the onlooker, the corpses in the grave are but symbolisms, marking the life of literature in terms of its reader and the artist.
And concluding a mobius of dialogues and expressions are the quiet yet evocative pieces by Fahd Burki.
