According to Al Bayan, the TRA said that 117 (43.8 per cent) of the blocked websites were used for fraud while 115 of the blocked websites (43.1 per cent) hosted pornographic content.
The TRA added that 26 websites were blocked for violating intellectual property rights, providing illegal online proxy services and other illegal activities.
Blocking an online website is a process that is usually done based on reports from users or by a team of moderators working at the service-providing companies, the TRA noted.
After discovering a website that provides illegal content, the TRA asks the authorised service-providing companies du and Etisalat to block the websites and its related pages.
