Etisalat on Monday announced that Obaid Humaid Al Tayer has been appointed as the chairman of the company.

He will replace Eissa Mohamed Ghanem Al Suwaidi, who submitted his resignation as Chairman of the Board for Directors of Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC (Etisalat Group) for personal reasons, the company said in a declaration to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.
Al Tayer is a Cabinet Member and Minister of State for Financial Affairs. He joined the Federal Government in February 2008.
The minister has earlier held several key positions, including Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (2000 -2008); Member of Dubai Economic Council (2004-2008).
He also held positions such as Member of Etisalat Board of Directors (1981 - 1991); Board Member of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (1982 - 1991); Member of Dubai Municipal Council (1982 - 1990); and Member of Federal National Council (1981-1985).
Al Tayer graduated from University of Colorado, USA, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
