Apple could finally be bringing touchscreens to the Mac. According to a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, touchscreen-enabled MacBook Pro models are on track for release in late 2026.

The upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are reportedly scheduled for the usual October to December launch window, but they may introduce one of the biggest design shifts in Mac history.

OLED display and Dynamic Island on Mac

The new MacBook Pros are expected to feature OLED displays with built-in touch support. More notably, they could also include the Dynamic Island, introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro.

On the MacBook Pro, Dynamic Island would reportedly sit around a smaller hole-punch camera cutout rather than the pill-shaped design used on iPhones. The feature is expected to show active tasks, alerts, timers, sports scores and system activity.

However, despite the design change, Face ID support is not expected at this stage.

Apple’s first touchscreen laptop

If accurate, this would mark the first-ever touchscreen Mac. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs famously criticised touch laptops nearly two decades ago, describing them as uncomfortable to use. But shifting user habits appear to have changed Apple’s stance.

According to the report, the MacBook Pro will retain its large keyboard and trackpad, allowing users to work entirely without touch input if they prefer. However, the interface will reportedly adapt dynamically between touch and traditional pointer-based navigation.

For example, tapping a control could trigger expanded touch-friendly menus, while menu bar items would enlarge when selected by finger rather than cursor. Standard gestures like pinch-to-zoom and fast scrolling are also expected.

Beyond the touchscreen and OLED upgrade, rumours also suggest a thinner body and additional design refinements.

In other news, Apple is expected to launch up to five new products, including the iPhone 17e and budget MacBooks as soon as next week. Tech experts are reportedly invited for a 'Special Experience' in New York, London, and Shanghai on March 4.
