New leaks about Apple’s upcoming flagship suggest the next iPhone Pro could bring subtle design tweaks, a bigger battery and a powerful new chip.

According to posts from well-known Weibo leakers, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and its larger sibling, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, may feature a slightly thicker design along with several internal upgrades.

Slightly thicker design for bigger battery

According to 9to5Mac, one of the latest leaks claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could measure 8.8mm thick, which is only slightly thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 8.75mm. By comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro Max measured 8.25mm.

While the increase is minor, the extra space could help Apple accommodate a larger battery reportedly exceeding 5,000mAh, potentially improving battery life in the next generation of iPhones.

Dynamic Island changes still uncertain

Earlier rumours suggested that Apple might significantly shrink the Dynamic Island cutout on the front of the phone, possibly reducing its size by around 35 per cent.

However, newer leaks suggest Apple could reuse some of the iPhone 17 Pro’s manufacturing moulds, which may mean that Face ID components remain in their current configuration. If that happens, the Dynamic Island might not shrink as dramatically as expected.

The uncertainty highlights how Apple’s internal design decisions can still evolve months before launch.

A20 Pro chip and camera upgrades tipped

Beyond the design, leaks point to several potential hardware improvements. The next-generation Pro models are expected to feature Apple’s A20 Pro chip, reportedly built on an advanced 2nm manufacturing process for improved performance and efficiency.

Other rumoured upgrades include camera aperture improvements and the aforementioned larger battery, which could become key selling points for the new devices.

Apple has not confirmed any of these details, and the company typically unveils its flagship iPhones during its annual September launch event.

In other news, Apple unveiled several new products earlier this month, including the new iPhone 17e and MacBook Neo, now available for purchase across the UAE.
