Igor Timofeyev, Ambassador of Ukraine to the UAE, who officially inaugurated the new facility, said that the opening of the office would boost tourism between the two cities.

"Like Dubai in the UAE, Odessa is a commercial centre of Ukraine and we have a lot of requests from the UAE businessmen to visit the city," he said. The airline, which started with charter flights back in 1989, today operates two weekly flights Odessa-Dubai-Odessa. Commencing from April, the airline will add two Boeing737 on this route to its existing fleet of two Yak42 aircraft, said Vladimir Alifanov, country manager of Tavrey Airlines. "The opening of the sales office is a very important step for the airline and we hope to expand our market and add more flights depending on the demand," he said.

"We started to operate in the UAE in 1989 with chartered twice a daily flights when business between the two countries was booming until it came to a standstill after a few years," Andrei Keyan, an Odessa-based businessman and founder of the Tavrey Airlines, said. In 1995, the airline resumed its flight from Ras Al Khaimah, while from next year, it started flights from Dubai.
